2016 Scholarship Recipients

This year we awarded two deserving recipients with our annual college scholarship. We congratulate Allyah Perez from Esparto High School and Lauren Millang from Pioneer High School for their contribution to their communities.

Allyah Perez kept very busy playing volleyball, basketball, softball, and soccer. She held office in the Honors Society, FFA, Spanish and science clubs, and was on the honor roll during her entire high school career.

Allyah was so inspired by her agriculture leaders that she has decided to major in agriculture education at California State University Chico. Allyah proclaims that, “As my agriculture advisor influenced me and changed my life I only hope that I can do the same to one of my own students’ lives. I want to continue to advocate for agriculture and let others know how much of an impact agriculture has on our lives.”

Lauren Millang was very involved in her FFA Chapter. She was recently awarded the Woodland Chamber of Commerce Outstanding FFA Member for her outstanding commitments! Lauren served as the Student Spirit Section Commissioner, Rally Commissioner and Special Education Outreach Commissioner. She was a member of the California Scholarship Federation and National Honors Society served as Secretary of Club SMILE – promoting cleft palate awareness and positivity on campus. She was also active in her local 4-H club, volunteered at Dixon Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Facility, Woodland Stallion Station and Rotary Club. She also enjoyed 11 years at the Woodland School of Dance.

Lauren will be attending Oklahoma State University in the fall and ultimately aspires to serve as an advocate for Agriculture. She hopes to work for an outreach program to educate the public about agriculture, such as Ag In The Classroom. Her goal is to earn a Masters Degree to further her knowledge in agriculture so she is able to give back to a community that has given her so much support throughout her own involvement in Agriculture youth-based programs.

We are very proud of Allyah and Lauren’s accomplishments and we wish them both the best of luck with their college careers and future endeavors!

School Supplies for Farmworkers' Families

Collage

Thank you! Thank you! Due to the generous support of our amazing community we were able to donate over 850 backpacks to local farmworkers’ families for the 2015-2016 school year – that’s 250 more than last year! Each backpack was filled with school supplies tailored to each recipient. It has been very exciting to watch this program grow dramatically since the first year. A special thank you to everyone who assisted with packing and distributing the backpacks.

2015 College Scholarship Award Winner

Congratulations to Alexis Cook – the 2015 recipient of our $1,000 college scholarship. Alexis graduated first in class from Esparto HS and was Valedictorian. During her high school career she participated in many school sports and clubs including FFA for 4 years.  She spent many after school hours at Lopez Ranch and Horse Hilton as a stable hand and horse trainer.

Alexis will be attending Northeastern University in the fall and will be pursuing a degree in Architecture. She is preparing for a career in agriculture specializing in biological, technological and scientific designs. In her application she noted, “My future career goals can help slow down urban sprawl and help the production of agriculture commodities. In a time of many technological advances and urbanization, it is important to go with the times but not lose a vital industry due to these advances. I want to keep the moral of the agricultural commodity viable, but also fight hard to protect the agriculture sector”.

We are very proud of Alexis’ accomplishments. We wish her the best of luck with her college career and future endeavors!
